The Challenge
When I first started creating print materials, I had no existing assets, templates, or direction. I needed to create materials for events and client interactions, often on short notice, without a defined system to work from.
I began developing print materials from scratch, focusing primarily on educational handouts and interactive pieces for live events. Using Canva as my primary tool, I worked within a set of loose brand guidelines while experimenting with layout, typography, and structure to make information more accessible to my clients and other community members.
While these early designs met my immediate needs, they revealed gaps in my approach, particularly in audience awareness. Many materials were designed based on personal preference, rather than being optimized for the audiences they were intended for. This phase became a foundation for understanding how design decisions impact usability and engagement.

Professional Work – Designing Within Systems

In a professional setting, I was introduced to a brand in the midst of its establishment with defined guidelines, but no existing supporting materials. My work required aligning new designs to a specific visual identity while operating within a fixes timeline and coordinating with external partners.
In a professional setting, I was introduced to a brand in the midst of its establishment with defined guidelines, but no existing supporting materials. My work required aligning new designs to a specific visual identity while operating within a fixes timeline and coordinating with external partners.
Starting with a single page of brand guidelines, I developed supporting print materials that aligned with the firm’s developing visual identity. This included translating abstract brand direction into practical design elements and ensuring consistency across all materials.
At the same time, I collaborated with an external media team responsible for campaign video production. Our goal in this collaboration was providing cohesive overall content across platforms.
This phase in my work marked a shift from independent experimentation to structured design execution. I developed a stronger understanding of brand alignment, consistency, and cross-functional collaboration while producing materials that supported engagement across platforms.

With an established brand and a defined campaign direction, the focus shifted to a new, but predictable, problem: the absence of supporting print materials. Despite preparing for important meetings and outreach opportunities, there were no cohesive assets beyond basic identifiers, like business cards.
I elevated the marketing campaign into print by developing materials that aligned with both the established brand and the newly established campaign identity. This involved refining visual and written elements to ensure consistency while adapting messaging for different formats and audiences.
This phase of work reflects a more strategic approach to design; moving beyond individual pieces to creating cohesive, purpose-driven materials that support broader communication goals. The work strengthened the campaign’s presence across in-person interactions and provided tangible tools for engagement.
